Getting Started

How do I set a destination?

Open SwimOnCourse on your iPhone, navigate to the Navigate tab, and long press on the map where you want to swim to. A pin will appear. Tap "Send to Apple Watch" — the Watch app will open automatically.

Do I need my iPhone during the swim?

No. Once you've sent the destination to your Watch, your iPhone can stay in your bag, car, or on shore. The Watch navigates independently.

What do the haptics mean?

Silence means you're on course. Your left haptic pattern fires when you need to turn left, your right pattern when you need to turn right. You can configure the patterns and intervals in Settings before your swim.

Why can't I interact with the Watch screen during a swim?

Water lock activates automatically shortly after your swim starts to prevent accidental touches from water. To interact with the screen, turn the Digital Crown to unlock it.

How do I end a swim early?

Swipe right on the Watch to reveal the Controls screen, then tap End. Your results will appear immediately on the Watch and sync to your iPhone.

My swim history isn't showing on iPhone. What happened?

Swim data transfers from Watch to iPhone via Bluetooth after your swim ends. Make sure your iPhone is nearby and unlocked. The transfer happens automatically — it may take a moment.

How accurate is the navigation?

GPS accuracy outdoors is typically ±10–30 feet. The navigation corridor is 30 feet on each side of the ideal line, which accounts for normal GPS variation. Best results are in open water with a clear view of the sky.

Can I use SwimOnCourse in a pool?

The app is designed for open water. Indoor and pool GPS is unreliable and will produce inaccurate navigation. We recommend using it only in open water with good sky visibility.
